Pearl Island (off the coast of Nova Scotia) is guardian to Mahone Bay and the Chester islands. Once a manned lighthouse, it is now only an automated light and the lighthouse keeper’s house and related building which was torn down a few years ago. However, Pearl still has life left in it as it is still home to the Atlantic Puffin. The Puffin is common in summer in Nova Scotia but only around one of its remaining breeding colonies at Pearl Island, Lunenburg County.
