Personal thoughts from within the Luxury Real Estate network

By Jennifer Schuyler

I cannot tell you how excited I am about the upcoming Spring Retreat at The Grand Del Mar in San Diego, California!

Over the last five years working within our industry, I have not experienced or met such a high-caliber group of people representing Luxury Real Estate. Our conferences are amazing opportunities to network, increase referral business and allow new and senior members to establish personal and professional relationships.

Appropriately, this week I have had several conversations about the Leap Year and, in particular, babies born on February 29th.
Pirates ARRR! cool.
Each time this topic comes up, I have shared my affinity for The Pirates of Penzance, a comedic opera by W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan, also famous for The Mikado and H.M.S. Pinafore (Few people know this, but I was in a Middle School rendition of The Mikado).

I was reading Shelby Morris’ blog the other day about Print vs. Online advertising and I saw this great entry, entitled Internet Marketing vs. Print Ads, so I thought I would share it. The question this author posed was whether agents should do online or print advertising. One of the agents writing had decided to do just online. Below is a response by Matt Grohe that I thought was very telling:

“Shelby, I enjoy driving, but that doesn’t mean that I won’t ride a bike, walk, or take a bus or a train. In my estimation, a strategy based entirely on the Internet is a lopsided one.

At Luxury Real Estate, we do not only produce the most-viewed luxury real estate website in the world, LuxuryRealEstate.com, we also produce award-winning websites for our clients. Over the last three weeks we have launched three websites that are as distinct as the companies they represent: MiamiRealEstate.com, EwingandClark.com, and TheFloridaAuthority.com.

It seems like an oxymoron, but I believe there is a right way to make mistakes. In fact, I think that I’d like to see more people making mistakes because that means that they’re moving beyond their comfort zones and trying new things. It’s scary to put yourself at risk. It hurts to be criticized. It’s not a whole lot of fun to expose your weaknesses. But each of these frightening things can help us grow more than trying to always look polished and perfect.

Illustrated Properties Real Estate is proud to announce the addition of Dutcher Higgenbothem and Bass, Inc., to their Family of Companies.

There is strength in numbers and Illustrated Properties is proud to have increased not only in size and but also in market share with the recent merger of the very successful, well-known and respected Dutcher, Higginbotham and Bass, Inc., located in Sewall’s Point.

No matter what forecast Punxsutawney Phil made on Groundhog Day, spring is coming. With spring comes the sun, the heat and the yearning to be swimming in a pool. Gone are the days where a pool with a diving board and a slide were considered unique and luxurious. The current trend is to transform your pool into a tropical oasis or a Rocky Mountain getaway.

Exotic textures made of quartz and limestone create the appearance of a Mother Nature paradise in your own backyard. Framed with the beautiful textures and colors that make up your new pool are additions such as caves, grottos and waterfalls.

I personally love the idea of being able to vacation in my own backyard or pool house. While the slide and the diving board of yesteryear were for the children of the house, the limestone waterfalls and caves of today are catered more toward the adult consumer. This would definitely be a feature that any home buyer will love.

Kimberly Fulwyler is an Account Manager with
LuxuryRealEstate.com, so she provides customer service and marketing materials to a variety of LuxuryRealEstate.com members. Whether it’s a cute rodent or sophisticated meteorologists predicting six more weeks of winter, there’s something nice about proving them wrong. Spring is definitely here in Seattle, at least. I hope that you’re enjoying some beautiful weather, as well.

Philanthropy, community-based giving, social justice, and volunteering are all ways you as a luxury agent can make a difference and set yourself apart from your competition. Find a cause near to your heart and get involved. The benefits are more powerful than any magazine or newspaper advertisement. We would love to help you to speak about your passions to the end audience.

I was recently speaking with my brother, who is in the market for a new home in Santa Cruz, CA. I immediately offered my services to help with the process, but, being the independent 28-year-old that he is, he told me that he’s got it all under control. As an artist/plumber who specializes in custom copper piping, he has created his own referral network that serves him well.

As a parent of four, it’s easy to catch me giving thanks for my extended family nearby always sharing humor, truth, kindness, expertise, compassion and much more. In fact, I’ve said we may not have had four if it weren’t for our support system nearby.
